Photography projects also afford the photo blogger a chance to engage the local community and draw possible traffic to the blog.

Ideas for blogs can include:

  • Documenting the local community (festivals, events, etc.), providing good experience for future photojournalists.
  • A 365 photo project, where the photo blogger usually focuses on taking one unique and good photo per day. Photographer Jim Goldstein provides some excellent tips for succeeding at a 365-day projec t.

Engage Readers with Blog Contests

A component to successful blogging is engaging the audience. Hosting contests on the photographer's blog is a great way to do this. It allows blog followers to flex their creative vision while garnering the photo blog a more loyal following.

But what are contests without prizes? A photo blogger can get creative with this, whether with doing a profile on the winner, inviting the winner to do a guest post, or even prizes (a limited edition print or a useful book like John Harrington's Best Business Practices for Photographers).

Problogger.com founder Darren Rowse offers some suggestions for hosting successful contests in his blog article titled, “My Secret to Running Successful Competitions on a Blog.“

How to Display and Market Work on a Photo Blog

Photographers and photo enthusiasts often use their blogs to display their work, even if they have a primary website. It often reaches a different audience than a photographer's main website, adding an influx of new visitors.

But a photo blog also provides the photo blogger with a way to market herr photographs. A blogger set up an online photo store and integrate it into their blog. Services like SmugMug provide photo bloggers with the option of hosting and selling photos; photographers can also set their own prices.

These services do charge a fee, but they also allow a photographer a secure way to host her work. It is one of many useful tools that photo bloggers can utilize.

One example of integrating an online store is photographer and food blogger Kate Morgan Jackson's blog Framed.

Spreading the Word with E-mail Newsletters

E-mail newsletters are a very valuable resource for any blogger, especially those with a heavy subscriber base. Whether a photo blogger uses a service such as Aweber Communications or designs one independently, it allows the photo blogger to reach his/her audience and provide content that's not otherwise available on the blog.

Updates, tips and announcements are a just a few uses for an e-mail newsletter, as are additional updates to any monthly or weekly photo project. Popular photog community Phot.net utilizes this tool very effectively, sending out a monthly e-mail newsletter to its subscribers as well as occasional, shorter ones every few weeks.

Blogger Darren Rowse also utilizes an e-mail newsletter as part of his marketing strategy and provides a detailed account why.

Photo bloggers shouldn't take it as simply throwing something together and sending it out. Careful design and planning of quality content goes a long way, showing that the blogger respects her audience.

Whether photo bloggers are searching for new ways to improve their blogs or seeking inspiration for fresh content, these four suggestions provide a way to better utilize it. Fresh and interesting projects, interacting with the audience and marketing the photographer's work provides the blogger with some additional tools and possible methods of increasing her audience.

A lot more can be done with the look of the thin grey line, such as creating a jagged or curved edge that interacts with an overlayed image. I got a little weird and created some stalactites over a green unicorn with the Earth floating above and below the header line. View a screenshot of the complete profile using the ‘green unicorn hack.’

Image isolation in Photoshop is like using scissors to cut very closely around a photo torn from a magazine. Photoshop has a magnetic lasso, a magic wand and a quick selection tool to help you. There are a lot of guides on how to perform selections, here are a few that will help you:

  • A PDF on object selection and isolation
  • A video on object selection and isolation
  • A web tutorial with images on the Quick Selection tool.

I’m including the some example images to help you get started in a zip file at the end of this entry.

Hack Caveats

The hack falls apart a few different ways. The easiest is to post a status update that is long enough to wrap around to two lines of text. You can avoid this by posting your long status update, and then clearing it afterwards. View a screenshot of this problem. This leaves your current status as blank, but the update will still appear on your news reel and the illusion of the hack will be maintained.

Another point of note in using this hack is the display of your profile photo in wall listings. The profile photo is shrunk down quite a bit. A plus of this is that if you choose a long, 200×600 photo, it can look rather cool and set you apart from other Facebook people when you’re shown in a list.

Conclusion and Downloads

For many, your Facebook presence is an important part of your online presentation of self. You can differentiate yourself on Facebook by tweaking the look of your profile by using a specialized profile photo.

I’m making available a zip file that includes a number of original, layered .psd files that will help you get a quick start on hacking your Facebook profile photo. I’d love to see some examples of other ideas people come up with. Feel free to post or send me a screenshot of what you came up with and I’ll add it to this blog post.

step 1:

Open a new canvas in Photoshop with Width=2631,Height=1500px.Make sure Color Mode is set to RGB Color, if the purpose is for poster designing then set the mode to CMYK.

step 2:

Using the Gradiant Tool(G) colour the canvas as shown with sky blue and white.

step 3: 1)

Import the Princess image onto the canvas and place it on the right corner.

2) Color correct the Princess layer using the curves(Image>Adjustments>Curves),set the curves as shown.

step 4: 1)

In our princess layer the Castle is not complete,so cut a part of another image using the Pen Tool to complete the castle.

2)Now import the image onto our canvas and transform it using the Move Tool(V) to fit the prospective. Then name it as Castle Tower’.

3)With the Soft Round Brush(B) selected erase the part of the layer which is overlapping the Princess layer.

4)Using the curves color correct the ‘castle tower’ and make sure it blends with the princess layer.

step 5:

Now import the city image onto the canvas and place it under the princess layer.

step 6: 1)

Import a tower image into photoshop and remove the background using the Magic Wand Tool (W).

2)Now place the image above the ‘city’ layer.Since the tower is portrayed as a far object the edges should not be sharp so let’s blur the edges.Select the mask of the layer by clicking on the thumbnail of the ‘tower’ holding ‘Ctrl’, then inverse the mask holding Ctrl+Shift+I.Now set the feather of the to 1px,and featherout the edges.

3)Duplicate the Tower layer and name it ‘tower2′ and set to Black and White(Image>Adjustments>Black and White) and set the values as shown.

4)Now color correct the layer using the Color Balance.Set the Tone Balance to Midtones and set Color Levels to +3 0 -9.Then erase the grass part of this layer to show the grass green.

5)Now duplicate the tower2 layer to represent the sun rays falling on the tower. So brighten the tower3 and erase the darker side of shadows, and color correct the layer using the curves as shown.

step 7: 1)

Now import another tower image onto the canvas and place it on the left corner to portray a very far away object.
Then using the Exposure(Image>Adjustments>Exposure) set the Offset=+0.0755,Gamma Correction=1.26.

2)Since this tower is portrayed as a far away object than the previous tower it should appear blured than the ‘tower2′.So add Gaussian Blur of Radius=1.5px.

3)Now duplicate the ‘tower3′ and increase the Brightness=57(Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast).

step 8:

To complete the perfect background add some hills.
1)Import the hills image and place it under all the layers.

2)Now color correct the hills layer using the curves.

step 9:

As we discussed in the step7 add Gaussian Blur of Radius=2.2px.

step 10:

Increase the Exposure levels to Exposure=+0.24 , Offset=+0.0755 , Gamma Correction=1.24.

step 11:

Make a new layer above all the layers and add some clouds using the clouds brush with the white color selected.

step 12:

Cutting the plants from their background is tricky using the Magic Wand Tool,so let’s use another advanced method of cutting the image.
1)After importing the plant image select the Blue layer from the Channels Pallet.

2)Then open Channels from Image>Calculations and select Blue from the Channel drop down list.

3)Now by using the Levels(Image>Adjustments>Levels) and set the levels so that the plant turns black and BG turns white.

4)Load the plant mask from Select>Load selection. In Load Selection select Alpha1 from the drop down list of Channel.

5)Place the plant on the left bottom corner.Since we are focusing on the princess the plant must be blured, hence add Gaussian Blur of Radius-2.6px.

step 13:

Import a birds layer and add Gaussian Blur of Radius=1.1px.

step 14:

Now import the ‘Fairy’ onto the canvas and place it in such a way that the Fairy is giving something to the princess.

step 15:

Using the Clouds Brush paint some clouds on the Fairy as if she is sitting on the clouds.

step 16:1)

Having the Fairy layer selected change it’s Brightness/Contrast to Brightness=38,Contrast=17.

2)The back of fairy appears to be dark,so draw a mask around the dark area using the Lasso Tool(L) and set it’s feather to 60px.

3)Now add Diffuse Glow with Glow Amount=11,Clear Amount=20.

step 17:

Now add some Glow to portray that the Fairy is giving some power to the Princess.
1)Using the Glow Brush(B) paint the glow as shown with the sky blue color selected.

2)Using the Soft Round Brush(B) paint on the previous glow with the same color in a new layer, and set the Layer mode to Vivid Light.

3)Again using the glow brushes add more glow as shown.

step 18:1)

Using the Type Tool(T) type a title(Princess Diaries),and place the text layer under the ‘Plant’ layer.

2)Select the Layer Style of the text layer and select Bevel and Emboss and also select Contour and choose Rounded Steps from the drop down list of Contour and set the range to 98.

Final Output:

No, this was taken a good while before it came out, and I haven’t posted any iPhone 4 photos on here yet, although I have scheduled a batch to be posted later in the month. In the meantime, there are quite a few here.

Capturing photos has always been a big part of people’s lives. We all love to take pictures of ourselves, our relatives and friends whether or not there is a special occasion. But how much do we really know about photography? To further understand photography, below are some tips:

Different Types of Photography:

1. Aerial Photography – This type of photography is best if you want to capture a beautiful landscape or if you want to take a top view of a certain place.

2. Another type is called Amateur Photography. As the name implies, the one taking pictures is not yet a professional in photography.

3. Adventure or Action Photography – This is a type of photography which fits those who love adventure. As the name imply, the photographer takes pictures of sports events, daring feats and other activities that are considered as an adventure.

4. Kirlian Photography – This is a type of contact print photography wherein an object that is touching a photographic plate is connected to a high voltage power source, therefore creating an aura that creates an image. Sometimes, this type of photography is referred to as an Aura Photography.

5. Time-Lapse – This is another type of photography wherein the camera is being setup in a special way so that it will be able to get photographs with long exposure and produce something indicates the passing of time while certain things are portrayed to be moving objects. You may be familiar with this photo where in it shows a busy street where in car lights are shown as blurry lines, this is a great example of this type.

6. Underwater Photography – As the term implies, this refers to photographs taken underwater. The photographer may take images under a pool, lake, river, or the sea to capture what’s happening underneath.

7. A Black and White Photography is a type of photograpy in black in white colors, however, this is more than that. Black and white photography explores the shapes, tones, textures, art and the bare beauty of the subject or model. Shadows and highlights are two important elements in this type.

The types of photography mentioned above are just some of the types that one who loves photography can delve in. Photography itself has many uses, the most common of which are for artistic expression and for business promotion. For those who just love taking pictures of special moments can use any type of photography that he wishes.

Europe – Uncover natural wonders
Beyond the powerful cities and modern architecture, Europe has some of the world's finest wilderness, from the mountain ranges of the Pyrenees to the Black Forest in Germany. Including destinations like these in your travel plans will help you to collect a diverse set of images.

Europeans have some of the most relaxed attitudes to photography in the whole world. However, as with most continents, the rule is always to ask before taking anyone’s photograph and in some countries, more specific rules apply.

When placing your subjects within a shot, be careful not point with your finger but instead use your whole hand. Pointing at someone is considered a rude gesture in many parts of Europe.

Martin’s top tip:
In portrait photography you should keep the eyes of the person you're photographing in mind. Make sure there's some kind of reflection in them – even just a small glint or shine will make a portrait image come alive.

North America - Get involved in the local culture

Nowadays, capturing the culture and spirit of North America can be achieved simply by staying in the cities to watch the colourful personalities of the local people unfold before your eyes.

Relaxing for a day on the beach in Los Angeles and watching the surfers – or strolling along the boulevards in Montreal amongst the dozens of roller-skaters can be just as interesting as the Grand Canyon or Yosemite and can provide some of the best photo opportunities.

In more rural parts of North America, such as Mohave, custom demands that the body as well as the property of the dead should be cremated and because of this, the preservation of photographs is deemed an especially offensive violation of this rule, since it preserves "the shadow," i.e., soul of the dead. Hence the Mohave are very reluctant to be photographed and resent any attempt to photograph them by stealth.

Native Americans in the US might refuse being photographed because they believe a mirror does not reflect reality, but a persons’ soul. A picture, taken by a device that relies heavily on mirrors, may therefore capture and enslave the soul. Sometimes, this restriction only counts for infants and children, as their souls are fragile, and can more easily leave the body.

Martin’s top tip:
Portraits are much more inviting when it feels like the person trusts the photographer, so if you can gain a rapport with your subject you can then try and catch them in action or capture their image while they are laughing.

The Dell Zino HD is a small form factor desktop that looks a bit like an oversized disc drive. But like the Mac Mini, the Dell Zino HD is a fully functional — if not exactly super-powerful computer. Dell has been offering the Zino HD with a relatively low power AMD chipset for a while, but Engadget spotted some documents suggesting that a much more powerful version will be available soon.

The base model will ship with ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics and an AMD RS880M chipset which can handle AMD Athlon II, Turion II, Phenom II, and V series single, dual, triple, and quad core processors.

The computer can support up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, has SPDIF output for 7.1 channel audio, and includes options for 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a Blu-Ray drive, and higher performance ATI Mobility Radeon 5450 graphics.

The computer measures just 7.8″ x 7.8″ x 3.5″ and weighs about 4.4 pounds. There’s no word on how much the new Dell Zino HD models will cost.

You can find more information at Dell’s support site for the computers.

Dell, however, had actually sent the university, in Austin, desktop PCs riddled with faulty electrical components that were leaking chemicals and causing the malfunctions. Dell sold millions of these computers from 2003 to 2005 to major companies like Wal-Mart and Wells Fargo, institutions like the Mayo Clinic and small businesses. “The funny thing was that every one of them went bad at the same time,” said Greg Barry, the president of PointSolve, a technology services company near Philadelphia that had bought dozens. “It’s unheard-of, but Dell didn’t seem to recognize this as a problem at the time.” Documents recently unsealed in a three-year-old lawsuit against Dell show that the company’s employees were actually aware that the computers were likely to break. Still, the employees tried to play down the problem to customers and allowed customers to rely on trouble-prone machines, putting their businesses at risk. Even the firm defending Dell in the lawsuit was affected when Dell balked at fixing 1,000 suspect computers, according to e-mail messages revealed in the dispute. The documents chronicling the failure of the PCs also help explain the decline of one of America’s most celebrated and admired companies. Perhaps more than any other company, Dell fought to lower the price of computers dell laptop battery. Its “Dell model” became synonymous with efficiency, outsourcing and tight inventories, and was taught at the Harvard Business School and other top-notch management schools as a paragon of business smarts and outthinking the competition. “Dell, as a company, was the model everyone focused on 10 years ago,” said David B. Yoffie, a professor of international business administration at Harvard. “But when you combine missing a variety of shifts in the industry with management turmoil, it’s hard not to have the shine come off your reputation.” For the last seven years, the company has been plagued by serious problems, including misreading the desires of its customers, poor customer service, suspect product quality and improper accounting. Dell has tried to put those problems behind it. In 2005, it announced it was taking a $300 million charge related, in part, to fixing and replacing the troubled computers. Dell set aside $100 million this month to handle a potential settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over a five-year-old investigation into its books, which will most likely result in federal accusations of fraud and misconduct against the company’s founder, Michael S. Dell. The problems affecting the Dell computers stemmed from an industrywide encounter with bad capacitors produced by Asian PC component suppliers. Capacitors are found on computer motherboards, playing a crucial role in the flow of current across the hardware. They are not meant to pop and leak fluid, but that is exactly what was happening earlier this decade, causing computers made by Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Apple and others to break. According to company memorandums and other documents recently unsealed in a civil case against Dell in Federal District Court in North Carolina, Dell appears to have suffered from the bad capacitors, made by a company called Nichicon, far more than its rivals. Internal documents show that Dell shipped at least 11.8 million computers from May 2003 to July 2005 that were at risk of failing because of the faulty components. These were Dell’s OptiPlex desktop computers — the company’s mainstream products sold to business and government customers. A study by Dell found that OptiPlex computers affected by the bad capacitors were expected to cause problems up to 97 percent of the time over a three-year period, according to the lawsuit. As complaints mounted, Dell hired a contractor to investigate the situation. According to a Dell filing in the lawsuit, which has not yet gone to trial, the contractor found that 10 times more computers were at risk of failing than Dell had estimated. Making problems worse, Dell replaced faulty motherboards with other faulty motherboards, according to the contractor’s findings. But Dell employees went out of their way to conceal these problems. In one e-mail exchange between Dell customer support employees concerning computers at the Simpson Thacher & Bartlett law firm, a Dell worker states, “We need to avoid all language indicating the boards were bad or had ‘issues’ per our discussion this morning.” In other documents about how to handle questions around the faulty OptiPlex systems, Dell salespeople were told, “Don’t bring this to customer’s attention proactively” and “Emphasize uncertainty.” “They were fixing bad computers with bad computers and were misleading customers at the same time,” said Ira Winkler, a former computer analyst for the National Security Agency and a technology consultant. “They knew millions of computers would be out there causing inevitable damage and were not giving people an opportunity to fix that damage.” Mr. Winkler served as the expert witness for Advanced Internet Technologies, which filed the lawsuit in 2007, saying that Dell had refused to take responsibility for 2,000 computers it sold A.I.T., an Internet services company. A.I.T. said that it had lost millions of dollars in business as a result. Clarence E. Briggs, the chief executive of A.I.T., declined to comment on the lawsuit. Some of the documents in the case that were sealed under a protective order became public this month. Those documents show that after A.I.T. complained, Dell laptop battery representatives looked at the failed computers and contended that A.I.T. had driven many of the computers too hard in a hot, confined space. Dell’s sales representatives discussed trying to sell A.I.T. more expensive computers as a resolution. Jess Blackburn, a Dell spokesman, said the company would not comment on pending litigation. Lawyers for Dell deny A.I.T.’s claims, and contend that A.I.T. has cherrypicked and misinterpreted documents in the case. Dell’s lawyers wrote in a response to A.I.T.: “There was a Nichicon problem, and it affected different customers in different ways.” In addition to the charge, Dell extended its warranty on the systems and often replaced computers when customers complained. (In 2007, Dell restated its earnings for 2003 to 2006, as well as the first quarter of 2007, and lowered its sales and net income totals for that period. An audit revealed that Dell employees had manipulated financial results to meet growth targets.) But, as Dell did not recall the computers, many of Dell’s OptiPlex customers may be unaware that they had problematic computers or realize why their computers broke. A.I.T. says in court documents that the faulty capacitors touched off a variety of other problems that were often misdiagnosed. Dell could potentially face a raft of new complaints from some of its biggest customers. Crucially, in their complaints to Dell in the lawsuit, customers describe losing valuable information when their computers malfunctioned. Dell, by contrast, denied that that the capacitor issue had caused data loss. Dell’s supply chain had always stood out as one of its important assets. The company kept costs low by limiting its inventory and squeezing suppliers. If prices for components changed, Dell could react more quickly than its competitors, offering customers the latest parts at the lowest cost. But the hundreds of Dell internal documents produced in the lawsuit show a company whose supply chain had collapsed as it failed to find working motherboards for its customers, including the firm representing Dell in the lawsuit, Alston & Bird. According to a person who saw Dell’s 2005 internal communications, company executives carefully devised a public relations policy around the OptiPlex situation. Mr. Dell and Kevin B. Rollins, then Dell’s chief executive, were told that the news media would be informed of Dell’s commitment to fix any systems that failed, that Dell was working with customers to resolve problems in the most effective manner possible and that the problems posed no safety or data loss risk. Carey Holzman, a computer expert who investigated the capacitor problems and collected photos from people with broken motherboards, had a different take on the safety situation. “Of course it’s dangerous,” Mr. Holzman said. “Having leaking capacitors is a huge problem.” He found that the capacitor problems could cause computers to catch fire. As late as 2008, after Mr. Dell had replaced Mr. Rollins and returned as chief executive, Dell continued to circulate internal memorandums trying to deal with the fallout from the capacitor situation. Dell salespeople, according to the lawsuit, fretted that technology directors at companies who used to buy from Dell could “justify their job” by advising their companies of Dell’s PC failures and recommending the purchase of H.P. and Lenovo computers. To counter such lingering bad impressions, Dell salespeople were told to emphasize that the company’s direct model allowed it to identify and fix problems faster than competitors.

Within the notebooks space, it seems that the pioneers nevertheless rule the waves. Acer laptop computer personal computers continue to lead in the field and new upcoming notebooks prove that Acer is nevertheless redefining the notebook field. Consider a number of notebook personal computers that Acer has released in recent years.

1 of those may be the Aspire 1 netbook. With a larger widescreen than the earlier netbook, the Aspire 1 also comes with much more welcomed improvements that consist of a a lot smaller keyboard, 6-cell batteries that provide additional run time, a regular 1GB RAM and a 160GB of hard drive. The netbook is also a lot thinner and lighter than its predecessors.

Acer notebook personal computers have continued to cram the exact same specs inside the same space over the many years whilst dramatically improving performance. A case in point is the Aspire 1 D250, which was released just several months right after the release of the Aspire One D150. You now have the option between two powerful netbooks to select from. While both of those Acer notebook personal computers may appear the exact same, the D250 is a a lot slimmer model and a lot lighter than its D150 predecessor. The price of this design is nicely below the $300 mark producing it quite inexpensive. Searching in the similarities of each of these models, they have the same size keyboard, the same glossy 10.1 inch screen and also the exact same glossy black bezel. The D250 laptop computer is obtainable in white, red and black colors.

Acer laptop computer computers, particularly the Aspire 1 series have redefined mobile connectivity while packing powerful computing functions into their form factors. They have obviously not carried out this in the expense of fun. However, this series of Acer laptop computer personal computers could be used by professional company people, globe travelers, and students, pretty much anybody who wants the freedom of mobility. With massive hard drive spaces and wireless internet connectivity, the Aspire 1 Acer laptop computer personal computers do what notebooks are meant to do greatest, simply your life. This is really a laptop computer you’ll not hesitate to use in public.

Its glossy surface makes it not just appealing because of its reflective boarders, but also very comfortable to hold. These personal computers are also fairly solid and they feel strong as well and can withstand the frequent tossing in a book bag without having much concern for their safety. Having a slightly longer battery life and having a cost aimed at undercutting all of the other competitors, the Aspire 1 Acer notebook computers are a first option for many consumers.
